       Tunisian food is highly known for its variety and quality food due to the succession of many civilizations starting from the berbers,byzantin,roman,turkish, French 🥖 and italian which is our mediterranean neighbour.                                  Apart from being 🤤 😋 delicious,the Tunisian gastronomy is ver healthy because its ingredients are almost bio and natural such as the olive 🫒 oil ,the vegetables , 🍖 meat and seafood 🦞 which is very abundant in our  coast.                                  

 As a Tunisian citizen I'm going to share with  you the best 20 Tunisian dishes you ever tasted. 

     


  1)  Couscous : The main and 😍 beloved dish of Tunisia s and tourists as well It is made of light 🌾 grains of semolina .It is cooked at least once a week in every Tunisian house.It can be cooked with 🐟, 🍗 🥓.Then it is melted with a sauce , potatoes and chickpeas.It is very chilly because it is melted with harissa very yummy 😋. 

      2)Djerbian rice :named after the island of Djerba which is in the south of Tunisia a touristic pearl .It is made by rice melted with tomato sauce,parsley, spinach, 🥔 potatoes chilly and 🥵 spices .it is like the spanish paella.


         3)Kamounia :it's a 🍅 tomato sauce full of garlic made with diced 🐑  sheep liver,kidney and heart  .it is spiced with specially cumin,safran and black pepper and 🌶️ it is very tasty and delicious.  

       


         4)Shakshouka : a berber delicacy made of vegetables, olive oil,spices and full of onions and before it's ready you put three or four broken eggs inside.                                          
       

         5)Lasagna :an Italian adapted dish made of layers of pasta stuffed with minced spicy meat and covered with the tomato sauce and olive oil.You make 3 or 4 layers then you cover with your favourite 🧀 cheese ,very 😋 yummy indeed.                     

As for salads Tunisia is famous for its original 

        6)Salad Mechouia :which means grilled vegetables found only here.you grill 7 green 🫑🌶️ peppers 5 🍅 tomatoes ,one 🧅 onion and  4 cloves of garlic.once they are ready ,peel the black stuff of the grilled vegetables and put them in the mixer and don't mix them too much .Pour the mixture in a 🥣 bowl and add half a teaspoon of coriander,harissa, salt and some olive oil.Put some tuna in the middle and cut a boiled 🥚 egg into halves  and put it in the bowl.Add some capres and olives serve this salad with fresh grilled sardines and grilled 🦞🍢  😋🤤.  


        7)Omek houria : made solely from boiled and crushed 🥕 carrots. put them in a frying pan add olive oil simmer then minced onion and tomato 🍅 sauce and harissa  .Add the spices as usual,it's ready when you smell a flavoured odor .Serve it with tuna,capres and a boiled egg 🥚 cut in halves .                           

     8)Tunisian salad : made of vegetables  cut in small parts you have to use 🥒 cucumber,tomatoes,onion and green peppers .Then fry an egg and some merguez sausage .Put them in the plate add salt,black pepper and olive oil .Add some capres and a lot of tuna .                                                                         As for soups Tunisia is known for a berberian dish called:   

             


          9)Hlalem :it is made of small portions of flour pasta  cut slightly thin then dropped in a soup made out from tomato sauce with onion 🧅 ,chilly and spices.  

               

                 
        10)Tcheesh :  best soup 🍲 you can taste it is made from grinded 🌾 wheat grains  very small and dried 🦑 octopus 🐙 from the 🏝️ island of kerkennah  cooked in a tomato sauce  .It should be served hot and spicy.      
   Other Tunisian delicacies  concerning snacks 🥨 and fast food from which we can name:                                                                       
            

  11) Fricassé : It looks like a mini sandwich  ,its pasta is made from flour,yeast,salt , 🥚 egg and yoghurt..Leave the paste for 1 hour then shape it in elongated rolls then fry it.Then stuff it with mashed potatoes with parsley and put some hot sauce harissa ,add some tuna half a boiled 🥚 egg  some capres and 🫒 olives .              

    


    12)Brik :Typically Tunisian snack,you find in every 🏠 house  ,it's s flaky pastry  fried in olive oil  and stuffed with an egg ,mashed potatoes 🍠 ,parsley and onions  and flavoured with tuna and capres.    

             

 

    13)Merguez :Spicy 🔥 fresh 🌭 made from minced meat mixed with minced onion and parsley and garlic 🧄.Add your favourite spices and stuff it in sheep intestines and grill over 🔥 fire .  

                   


     14)Mtabga :originally berberian food  very 🔥 hot and 😋 it's made of one layer of pasta  cooked over fire on which you put some tomato 🍅 sauce with basil and minced meet then you cover with another layer of pasta and put in a traditional tabouna oven until it's golden and crispy.                 

   


15)Tagine :   is a spicy   snack made by fried 🥔 potatoes,minced meat,onion,parsley    ,spices, 🧀 cheese and 🍞  bread crumbs.mix them with 5 eggs then put in the oven gor half an hour.Very tasty and 🤤  yummy ,it lasts for a long time.                                                        As for 🧁 sweets,Tunisia has a wide range depending of the occasions ,the most famous and classic sweet is :      

                                   


16) Baklava :Ottman's sweet  made from pastry layers very thin and stuffed with minced almond and pistachios .It needs at least 5 layers that should be cut into   diamond shapes then put in the oven after half an hour when it becomes golden and crispy take it out and cover it with sugared liquid (water,lemon and sugar put over fire for sometime till it becomes sticky ).       


      17)Bouza : a sweet dish made from milk and custard 🍮  and covered with roasted dried fruit and chocolate.                                              

    18)Zreer : made from minced sesame  seeds  mixed with almond and pistachio powder then covered with  natural 🍯  honey.It's a royal tradition  served only in occasions.   


                                                                 19)Bambaloni :Tunisian 🍩 donuts made from flour,yeast,,rose water and 🥛 milk.It is fried in oil  and made in circular form.After being ready it is put in powdered sugar and served hot.                                            

      

20)Makroudh : It's  a Tunisian specialty made from semolina paste with olive oil and stuffed with mashed dates and almond  it's shaped into diamonds and fried in oil when it becomes golden and crispy we cover it with sugared wateror 🍯 honey.                             These are just few tips of the Tunisian food and cuisine if you like it I can provide you with more recipes.
